St. Ephrem Prayer for Lent!

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

As an Eastern Catholic I take part in special daily prayers during lent. There is a fast that is required also. But for this moment I want to share with you this special prayer that I find changes me slowly throughout Lent. Like a dripping tap on a rock, the water slowly reshapes the rock; so my whole being has subtle gentle changes. These prayers when prayed from the heart help me to go deeper into my relationship with My Lord, My God!¬† When it reads “prostration” that means that you would first cross your self and then bow from the waist, or bow from the waist and touch the ground with your hand (indicating that you offer all of yourself from your toes to your head to the Lord) or go down on your knees and touch your head to the floor (an even deeper action of surrender)

Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian

O Lord and Master of my life!
Keep me from me the spirit of indifference and discouragement,
lust of power, and idle chatter.
Prostration

Instead, grant to me, Your servant,
the spirit of chastity,
humility, patience and love.

Prostration

O Lord and King,
grant me to see my own transgressions
and not to judge my brothers and sisters;
for You are blessed now and forever. Amen.
Prostration

Then, with a simple bow, the following Act of Contrition is repeated four times.

Act of Contrition

O God, be merciful to me a sinner.
O God, cleanse me of my sins and have mercy on me
I have sinned without number, forgive me, O Lord.

Happy Lent!
